ministries But as for you, continue in what you have learned and have firmly believed, knowing from whom you learned it and how from childhood you have been acquainted with the sacred writings, which are able to make you wise for salvation through faith in Christ Jesus. All Scripture is breathed out by God and profitable for teaching, for reproof, for correction, and for training in righteousness, that the man of God may be competent, equipped for every good work.   2 Timothy 3:14-17.

Our Mission: HBC is dedicated to helping people of all ages make God their God.

That means making available many tools, helps, and resources for Bible study and growing in God's Word.  Some are pdf files.  If you do not have the free version of Adobe Acrobat Reader, click and download it.  Then you can read the files.

Teaching Notes on various books of the Bible

  • Teaching Notes on the book of Ruth:  This pdf file is the complete set of teaching notes and handouts I used for a sermon series on the book of Ruth.  I would love to expand this a little and turn it into a book.

  • Teaching Notes on the Book of Romans: This pdf file is the complete set of teaching notes and handouts I used for a sermon series on the book of Romans.  I would love to expand this a little and turn it into a book also.  Right now, there are 12 lessons and it is only through the 4th chapter!

  • Foundations Class (pdf).  This was a class I put together for another church as a basics of Christianity using Wayne Grudem's material.

Bible Helps

  • Bible Study and Commentaries (pdf).  This is a series of articles on how to study the Bible, how to use commentaries and other resources such as concordances and dictionaries.

  • Don't Skip the First Verse! (pdf). Many people skip over the first verse of many of Paul's epistles to get to the meat.  But don't skip the first verse.  Usually there is enough meat in the first verse to chew on for a while.

Study Bibles

There is one study Bible that is whole-heartedly recommended by HBC: The ESV Study Bible.  This is by far the best study Bible on the market today, with numerous notes, articles, maps, explanations, and many other helpful tools.

Bible Software Recommendations

Logos Bible Software is the best out there on the market for general study, and it has the largest library of any package.  It also now comes in both PC and Mac versions.  Bibleworks 8 is the best software package for serious original language study of the Bible.  However, both are expensive.

For those that can't afford those but want the power of a computer to help with Bible study, I recommend two programs that are FREE.

  • Bible Explorer.  This is a free program with loads of free books.  There are a variety of Bibles, theology, devotional, and original language books.  There are also a ton of very inexpensive books at Doxa Digital Press. I use this program with Logos Libronix because they have a lot of good references.

  • E-Sword.  This is also a free program with many good books.  The interface is easy to use and learn.
