Meet The Team
HBC is a nondenominational church plant in St. Charles, MO. Currently
our staff is small, but we are growing!

Brett Avants, Pastor
Pastor Brett is not your typical pastor. He was called later
in life after God led him on many adventures. He graduated from
the United States Military Academy at West Point in 1988, and served
in various locations in the U.S. and Europe. He was awarded a
Bronze Star in Desert Storm as a Scout Platoon Leader. He worked
for the intelligence community, and spent 11 years at MEMC Electronic
Materials, Inc, leaving as the Director of Marketing Communications.
Brett has two Master's degrees in religion/ministry, and is working on
his PhD at Whitefield Theological Seminary. He has pastored a
small church restart project and was teaching pastor for another local
church for several years while working full time.
He is
married to his lovely wife Karen of 20 years and has two daughters,
who are serious Daddy's girls! Brett's passion is the teaching of the
Word of God so that Christ through the Holy Spirit may work the
miracle of salvation in the lives of people. He loves reading
theology and military history, and his only two TV shows are 24 and
The Unit; although Fringe can be very addictive. |

Karen Avants, Children's Ministry Director
Karen is Brett's high school sweetheart and wife of 20 years.
She has been involved in children's ministry teaching and leadership
positions for 15 years, and has a degree in Elementary Education.
She has taught pre-school and elementary school in various states and
for the Department of Defense Schools in Germany. She enjoys
scrapbooking and cake decorating. |
