It is good to give thanks to the Lord, to sing praises to your name,
O Most High; to declare your steadfast love in the morning, and your
faithfulness by night... Psalm 92:1-2.
Worship is more than music - it
is honoring God for who He is. We worship God in the preaching of His
Word, in giving our time, talent, and treasure to Him, in prayer, and
through spiritual songs and hymns, to name a few. Idolatry is
worshipping another entity other than God. HBC is dedicated to
helping people make God their God, and this includes proper worship and
prayer to God and not something else.
HBC is
dedicated to worshipping God in the Spirit with God-honoring and reverent
music. So often, especially nowadays, music can divide a church, divide
people, and cause confusion and dissention in a church rather than honoring
God. At HBC, we sing songs to God because that is one way He desires
to be worshipped. The music should not get in the way of the worship.
The songs and lyrics should be reverent, pleasing to God, and focused on
God.
This is why at HBC we sing some contemporary songs as well as some of the
classic hymns. Many songs of both types contain good theology and
honor God as well as build up believers in their faith. These songs
also relate to unbelievers in that they demonstrate who God is, His
majesty, and His work through our Lord Jesus on the cross for sinners.
Musical worship can be a great proclamation of the gospel message, and many
of these songs we sing do just that.
While we are still small
and have very little musical talent, we believe that this is not an
obstacle to good worship. Modern technology has progressed so far
that a congregation can still worship the Lord Jesus Christ through DVD's
and other means. It's the attitude that counts, not the talent or
resources.
Worship also includes Communion, or the Lord's Supper.
At HBC, we receive the Lord's Supper every week for several reasons:
1) We all need to be reminded constantly of the work of Christ on the cross
for each one of us. 2) We need to be spiritually nourished through
the Lord's Supper as a means of grace. The Lord's Supper has no
magical power or saving power, but God does spiritually feed us as we feed
on the symbols of the body and blood of our Lord. 3) Communion unites us as
the body of Christ.
Come and join us for reverent, God-honoring worship of
all styles and flavors.
